BCCI Introduces Incentive Scheme for Domestic Cricketers

The 94th Annual General Meeting of the BCCI took place in Mumbai on Sunday. Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh represented the Punjab Cricket Association at this meeting. Following the discussions, Harbhajan revealed that the board has initiated an incentive scheme aimed at financially rewarding domestic players for participating in more matches during a season.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Harbhajan explained that it has been decided that players who participate in a greater number of domestic matches in a season will receive increased financial compensation. This initiative is intended to motivate teams to reach the finals of domestic tournaments. The former Indian star disclosed that the bonuses could be substantial. He mentioned that if a cricketer plays 14 first-class matches in a season, they could earn an additional match fee of 1 crore rupees.

This initiative is seen as a significant shift for India's domestic cricket landscape. It is viewed as a platform for future international players. By linking attendance in matches to direct financial rewards, the BCCI aims to encourage players to prioritize domestic cricket and enhance the competitiveness of tournaments like the Ranji Trophy.
